Sussex Cricket has announced a significant change in their coaching setup ahead of the 2027 season. Matt Walker, a seasoned cricket professional with an impressive resume, will take charge as the new head coach from November 1st. This move marks a departure for Paul Farbrace, who is set to assume the role of Director of Cricket at Sussex after serving as the team's head coach for some time.
Walker brings a wealth of experience to the position, having spent eight seasons as head coach at Kent County Cricket Club. During his tenure, he led the team to several notable achievements, including promotion to Division One in 2018 and success in both the T20 Blast (2021) and the One-Day Cup (2022). His coaching expertise has also been utilized by the England men's national team, where he held a coaching position. Currently, Walker is employed as both the batting coach at Warwickshire County Cricket Club and an assistant coach with MI London (formerly known as Oval Invincibles) in The Hundred.
Walker's appointment is expected to bring fresh perspectives and strategies to Sussex Cricket. His experience in guiding teams to success across various formats will be invaluable, especially considering the team's aspirations for the upcoming season.
